Technology – in general – has advanced and improved rapidly over the past few decades. These changes are so fast that not all of us are ready to cope with the technicality as well as the functionality of the wide spectrum of these new devices. Rest assured, this phenomenon is always on the rise, at least for the next few years if not more. This unfamiliarity of new techs entering the world market created a gap where users are unsure how to use these new gadgets (Tablets, smartphones, computers, and Internet of Things (IoT)). This gap becomes clearer, wider, and deeper when a user faces misconfiguration and incompatibility issues. However, there are tech superheroes where they can simply provide bridging between the two sides: users and their complicated gadgets. The Supermen of techs are IT Specialists of technology.
IT Support Specialists are those people with a keen interest in technology that ensures devices function as intended. They are the go-to people end-users call for general tech issues. For example, when a user cannot access the Internet or how the same user cannot connect to a printer, a regular example when some end users might face. Unfortunately, the role of IT Support in Kurdistan is misunderstood. It is expected that an IT Support should be an individual who can develop software (the job of software engineers), design networks (the job of a network engineer), configure servers and manage users (the job of a server developer/administrator). Arguably, IT Support is an entry-level position for technicians. Yet, when a job is advertised for this entry level, they require the applicant to be fluent in a variety of skills, including the ones mentioned above. As a consequence, experts end up filling entry level positions.
Now, if the assumption is to recruit experienced and well-equipped technologists based on the Kurdish market demand, anyone who desires to level-up their knowledge has the chance to compete for more than ever! Course materials that are designed for self-development in technology are abundant on the net. Specifically, courses that are tied to internationally recognized certificates such as Cisco Certified Network (Associate, Professional, and Expert), CompTIA Network+, Security+, Cloud+, Linux+, and A+. In addition, testing centers are made available across Kurdistan for test-takers who prefers to hold any of the mentioned certificates. A few years ago, this was not possible. Testing centers were only designed to meet the language test requirements such as TOEFL and IELTS. Nevertheless, Kurdistan is entering a new era, that technology is becoming an unignorable factor in its day-to-day activities.
